The inquiry essentially is: Why do I refer to the Queen of Heaven as the patroness of our Art?

Mainly because I am a person of a devotional bent. Other people may depersonalize the spiritual mechanism of our Art, or think of that mechanism purely in terms of celestial mechanics.

I think of the Sphere of the Fixed Stars as being the Great Adam, the Great Macrocosmic Man. The Fixed Stars include all of the sidereal constellations that are associated with the signs of the Zodiac. In my own mind, I think of this entity as the King of Stars.

The sidereal constellations are NOT the same as the signs of the Zodiac, although we call the signs of the Zodiac by the same names as twelve of those constellations. The sidereal constellations are uneven divisions of the Heavens. Some are larger than others. The signs of the Zodiac, however, are 12 equal divisions of the Heavens, 30 degrees each.

These signs of the Zodiac I associate with the Celestial Eve, the Mother of All Life. Note that the word "Zodiac" comes from the Greek ZOIDIAKOS KYKLOS, meaning the "Circle of Little Creatures." Note, too, that almost all of the Zodiac signs are symbolized by a living creature -- all accept Libra, the Scales. In ancient times, Libra was known as the Scorpion's Claws.

In any event, it is the Planets moving through the Zodiac Signs that largely govern life on Earth. It is true that the fixed stars also have their influence on individual lives and on nations and empires and dynasties, but Geomancy does not use them. Geomancy does use the Signs and Planets, however. And it is the motion of the Planets through the Signs that govern our hands to cast our charts.

Almost every religious tradition has some kind of Queen of Heaven figure. Perhaps a Christian would consider Her to be Mary. The ancient Gnostics called Her the Celestial Hecate. She was Asherah or Ishtar in ancient Middle Eastern countries, Isis or Nut in ancient Egypt, and so on.

If one's religious tradition does not have a Queen of Heaven figure, but has any God-figure, one may substitute that, instead. One could even discard the whole notion altogether, and just think of the Universe as a wonderful place wherein we can actually practice Geomancy, based on laws and principles that modern science does not yet understand.

All of that said, I do think it is helpful in any form of divination to acknowledge SOMETHING higher than oneself, in order to keep oneself humble. Praying to a Higher Power for wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and good judgment is useful.

For me, with Geomancy and Astrology, that Higher Power is the Queen of Heaven. For others, the Higher Power might be Isis or Allah or Jesus or God or, perhaps, the Universe, itself.
