A third inquiry received this week was:
>> What can I do to get better at Geomancy? What should I focus on? What should I learn by heart?
The most important things to learn, in this order, are:
(1) KNOW WHO THE QUERENT IS. Is the Querent asking the question and generating the figures? Or is the Querent telling the Geomancer his question, and then the Geomancer is asking the question and generating the figures? In the first situation, the Querent is HOUSE 1. In the second situation, the Geomancer is HOUSE 1, and the Querent is assigned a house based on his relationship to the Geomancer: a client (HOUSE 7), a sibling (HOUSE 3), a friend (HOUSE 11), and so on. If you do not get this right, you will assign HOUSES incorrectly and get a wrong judgment right from the beginning. SEE POSTING: REFERENCE: QUERENT
(2) KNOW THE MEANING OF THE HOUSES: It is vitally important before judging a chart that you know the correct assignment of houses, particularly for the Quesited thing or matter. Again, if you do not get this right, you will assign HOUSES incorrectly and get a wrong judgment right from the beginning. (3) KNOW THE SIXTEEN FIGURES, THEIR NAMES, AND THEIR ZODIACAL AND ELEMENTAL CORRESPONDENCES. SEE POSTING: REFERENCE: SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC. You will eventually absorb, without needing to memorize, the minor meanings of the zodiac signs. For instance, the four figures assigned to MUTABLE SIGNS are DOUBLE-BODIED. The four figures assigned to WATER SIGNS are FERTILE, while the four FIGURES assigned to GEMINI, LEO, and VIRGO are BARREN.
(4) KNOW THE FOUR MODES OF PERFECTION: OCCUPATION, CONJUNCTION, TRANSLATION, MUTATION. Keep in mind that there is a variation of TRANSLATION called COLLECTION (OF LIGHT). (5) KNOW THE MINOR RULES THAT CAN IMPACT JUDGMENT. Those rules, in order of importance in their power to alter a judgment: THE RULES OF COMBUSTION, PROHIBITION, FORTIFICATION, SUBRADIATION, BESIEGEMENT, BENEFACTION. Sometimes we look at a figure and do not know whether it is operating for good or ill, strongly or weakly. In that case, the RULE OF PATERNITY can be important. There are REFERENCE posts on all of these rules.
(6) KNOW THE TRADITION OF FIGURES AS PEOPLE: SEE POSTING: REFERENCE: FIGURES AS PEOPLE. These are occasionally very useful as secondary significators, as is explained in the reference post. These correspondences are rather like NATURAL RULERS in ASTROLOGY. We have them in Geomancy, too.
A common one in MEDICAL questions is PUER as the NATURAL FIGURE of SURGERY. RUBEUS is the NATURAL FIGURE of BLOOD. TRISITITA is the NATURAL FIGURE of BUILDINGS. FORTUNA MAJOR is the NATURAL FIGURE OF THE METAL GOLD. AMISSIO is a NATURAL FIGURE of A LOST OBJECT. CONJUNCTIO is a NATURAL FIGURE for a THIEF or THEFT. In similar way, the FIGURES can be NATURAL FIGURES of PEOPLE. ALBUS is the NATURAL FIGURE of a TEACHER or PARENT. PUELLA is the NATURAL FIGURE of a WIFE. CARCER is the NATURAL FIGURE of an EMPLOYER, and so on. Eventually, we will compile a listing of NATURAL FIGURES in a future reference post. Keep them in the background, however.
